阿根廷海軍「聖胡安號」（San Juan）柴電潛艦15日起在阿根廷南部外海失去音訊，艦上共有44名人員生死不明。搜救行動持續進行中，不過因為海上天候惡劣讓搜救工作增添困難。
根據路透社報導，來自阿根廷、美國、英國、智利和巴西的10幾艘船隻和飛機也加入搜救胡安號的行列。阿根廷海軍上將龔薩雷茲（Gabriel Gonzalez）表示，主要從海面上進行搜索，但搜救時海浪高達8公尺，風速高達40節，都讓搜尋潛艦的難度升高。
海軍司令加利亞濟（Gabriel Galeazzi）19日表示，阿根廷軍方最近偵測到的7次衛星電話，據信來自在南大西洋失蹤的聖胡安號，不過這些衛星電話無法幫忙鎖定潛艦的位置。
阿根廷海軍將聖胡安號失聯定調為艦上電力系統故障，導致失去聯繫，軍方表示艦上的飲水與糧食足夠船員使用。
聖胡安號為德國建造的TR1700型柴電潛艦，1985年下水，隔年交付阿根廷海軍。由於財政困窘，阿根廷政府曾在1980年代末期透過國際軍火掮客找上我國，希望能賣給台灣。但是這2艘潛艦重要零件來自德國，因為拿不到德國出口許可與最終使用者證明，讓軍售案最後告吹。
